Description
Sweet Alyssum (Lobularia maritima) is a delicate yet hardy flowering annual known for its sweet fragrance and dainty clusters of white, pink, or purple blooms. Often used as a ground cover, edging plant, or filler in container gardens, it forms a soft, spreading mat of color that enhances any landscape with charm and scent. Its airy blooms bloom generously from spring through fall, especially in cooler weather, and attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
This cool-season favorite thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-draining soil. Sweet Alyssum is incredibly low-maintenance and drought-tolerant once established, making it an ideal choice for busy gardeners. It’s also deer-resistant and versatile—great for rock gardens, borders, window boxes, or spilling over the sides of hanging baskets. For continued blooms, simply shear it back mid-season and it will bounce back with fresh growth and flowers.
